Sounds great; drink soda and not gain, or maybe even lose weight. Or use this in your coffee without adding any calories. I’m talking artificial sweeteners, a science experiment gone wrong leaving us as the victims. If you eat sweets, you crave more sweets. Artificial sweeteners are 300 times sweeter than regular sugar; that sets your sweet tooth into overdrive and feeds the bad bacteria in your gut, causing you to extract more calories and store them as fat. Artificial calories can cause calorie dysregulation, the inability to calibrate the degree of sweetness with the amount of calories, leading to overeating.
I think my buddy Dr. Mark Hyman says it best, “There’s no free ride. Diet drinks are not good substitutes for sugar sweetened drinks. They increase cravings, weight gain, and type-2 diabetes, and they’re addictive.” So what do you do? Retrain your sweet tooth. Start trading down; higher sugar fruits like pineapple for lower sugar fruits like berries. Eat sour and cultured foods, they feed the good bacteria in your gut and take your sweet tooth away. Cinnamon is naturally sweet and balances blood sugar. Vanilla helps raise serotonin. Try Xylitol, Erythritol, Stevia and Monk fruit, use the least amount possible, we want to retrain your taste buds to appreciate the natural sweetness of food.
